Ingredients

  • 1 pound about 450g fresh strawberries
  • 8 ounces about 225g chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil or coconut oil
  • Optional toppings: 1/4 cup crushed nuts

Equipment

  • 1 microwave-safe bowl (or heatproof bowl for double boiler)
  • 1 baking sheet
  • Parchment paper or wax paper (1 sheet)
  • 1 double boiler setup (pot and bowl) optional
  • Spoon or spatula for stirring

Method

  1. Gently wash strawberries under cool water and pat completely dry with paper towels; let air dry for 15-20 minutes to ensure no moisture remains.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate and optional oil; microwave in 20-30 second intervals, stirring each time, until fully melted and smooth (or melt using a double boiler over simmering water).
  4. Dip each into melted chocolate, coating about 3/4 of the way up; twirl and tap off excess.
  5. If using toppings, roll or sprinkle immediately while chocolate is wet.
  6. Place on prepared baking sheet; refrigerate for 15-20 minutes until chocolate hardens.

Notes

  • Ensure strawberries are at room temperature before dipping to prevent chocolate cracking.
  • For vegan version, use dairy-free chocolate.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days; let come to room temp before serving to avoid condensation.
  • If chocolate seizes (thickens), stir in a bit more oil to rescue it.
  • Experiment with flavors like adding a pinch of espresso powder to the chocolate for a subtle twist.
