- Eggs whichever you like
- Ice cubes or cold water (enough to fill the bowl halfway)
- 1 spoon vinegar or a pinch of salt (optional)
Gather eggs and place them in a single layer in the saucepan; cover with cold water by about 1 inch and add a pinch of salt or vinegar if desired.
Bring the water to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
Once boiling, turn off the heat, cover the pot, and let the eggs sit for 9-12 minutes (9 for slightly softer yolks, 12 for fully firm).
While eggs are sitting, prepare an ice bath by filling a bowl with ice and cold water.
Use a slotted spoon to transfer eggs to the ice bath; let chill for at least 5 minutes.
To peel, tap each egg on a hard surface to crack the shell, roll gently to loosen, and peel starting from the wider end; rinse under cool water to remove any shell bits.
- Adjust timing based on egg size or altitude—add 1-2 minutes at higher elevations.
- Store unpeeled in the fridge for up to 1 week; peeled ones last 4-5 days in water.
- For no green ring around the yolk, avoid overcooking and use the ice bath promptly.
