Trifles are the ultimate crowd-pleasing dessert: gorgeous layers in a glass bowl, no fussy plating required, and they actually taste better when made ahead.
I’ve been obsessed with trifles ever since a long time and have done so many experiments on making the best ones.
But I don’t know if I’ve found the best one yet, cuz, to me, every trifle tastes the best!
So, I’ve come up with this collection of 10 of the bests trifles which exist!
From classic English elegance to peanut-butter-cup-level indulgence, there’s something here for everyone—and they’re all surprisingly easy.
1. Chocolate Cheesecake Trifle
Decadent doesn’t even cover it. Oreos + cheesecake + chocolate pudding = happiness.
Ingredients
- 1 family-size package Oreos, crushed (reserve ½ cup for top)
- 16 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup sugar + 3 cups whipped cream
- 2 boxes chocolate fudge pudding + 4 cups milk
- Chocolate curls or mini chips for garnish
Instructions
- Beat cream cheese and sugar until fluffy; fold in whipped cream.
- Prepare pudding and let set 5 minutes.
- Layer: crushed Oreos → cheesecake mixture → chocolate pudding. Repeat twice.
- Finish with reserved Oreo crumbs and chocolate curls.
- Refrigerate overnight for the best texture.
Tip: Stand whole Oreos around the inside edge before layering—looks stun
2. Chocolate Toffee Trifle
The one that started my trifle addiction! Rich chocolate cake, silky pudding, whipped cream, and crunchy Heath bar pieces—this is pure comfort in a bowl.
Ingredients
- 1 (9×13) chocolate cake, baked and cooled (box mix or homemade)
- 2 (3.9-oz) boxes instant chocolate pudding + 4 cups cold milk
- 1 (16-oz) container Cool Whip, thawed (or 4 cups freshly whipped cream)
- 8 regular-size Heath or Skor bars (about 1½ cups crushed)
Instructions
- Bake or buy the chocolate cake; let it cool completely, then cut into 1-inch cubes.
- Whisk both boxes of pudding with 4 cups cold milk for 2 minutes until thick; let sit 5 minutes.
- Place half the cake cubes in the bottom of a large trifle bowl (press lightly so it’s even).
- Spoon half the chocolate pudding over the cake, spreading to the edges.
- Spread half the Cool Whip over the pudding.
- Sprinkle about ¾ cup crushed toffee evenly across the top.
- Repeat all layers: remaining cake → remaining pudding → remaining Cool Whip → remaining toffee.
- Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours (overnight is even better).
Tip: Freeze the candy bars 15–20 minutes before crushing with a rolling pin—zero sticky mess!
3. Strawberry Cream Cheese Trifle
This is my go-to for spring brunches. The tangy cream cheese layer takes regular strawberry trifle to the next level.
Ingredients
- 1 angel food cake or pound cake, torn into bite-sized pieces
- 2 lbs fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced (reserve a few whole for garnish)
- 2 (8-oz) blocks cream cheese, softened
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- 3 cups heavy whipping cream + ⅓ cup powdered sugar + 2 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Whip the heavy cream with ⅓ cup powdered sugar and vanilla to stiff peaks; set aside.
- In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese and 1½ cups powdered sugar until completely smooth (2–3 minutes).
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until no streaks remain.
- Place one-third of the cake pieces in the trifle bowl.
- Spread one-third of the cream cheese mixture, then top with one-third of the sliced strawberries.
- Repeat layers twice more, finishing with strawberries on top.
- Chill 4–8 hours before serving.
Tip: For cleaner slices, dip your knife in hot water between cuts.
4. Pecan Pie Trifle
Thanksgiving in a glass! Tastes exactly like pecan pie but way easier and feeds a crowd.
Ingredients
- 1 butter pecan or pound cake, cubed
- 1 (21-oz) can pecan pie filling OR homemade
- 8 oz cream cheese + ½ cup packed brown sugar + 2 cups whipped cream

- Top with a final caramel drizzle and remaining pecans just before serving.
Tip: Warm individual servings for 15 seconds in the microwave—tastes like fresh pecan pie!
